Description

Lighthouse is a one-of-a-kind custom shirt created for a Blue Flag Denim client as part of the Salt Spray Series.

A large Great Wave textile panel sweeps across the shoulder and chest, while a small indigo patch near the hem becomes the quiet focal point of the composition. Lines of hand stitching radiate outward from it like beams from a lighthouse cutting across the water.

On the collar, a hand-stitched Rice Grains Variation sashiko motif adds a small traditional detail, while contrasting indigo accents carry the composition across the shirt.

Created specifically for its owner, Lighthouse is built around a simple idea – a light showing the way through rough seas.

Salt Spray

The Salt Spray Series began with a pair of well-worn pajama pants printed with the iconic Great Wave. They had reached the end of their life as clothing and were headed for the landfill – but parts of the fabric were still strong and beautiful.

We carefully cut away the sections worth saving and used them to create a small series of one-of-a-kind shirts, combining the rescued wave fabric with hand stitching, patches, and sashiko details.

What was worn out became something new ✦ A second life, carried in from the sea.
